PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

A new way forward

A new twist on an old classic is always exciting, and this edition of The Honoree offers just that.

Historically a print product, the fall 2022 iteration has been rendered as a fully digital publication using the innovative and immersive content creation platform that produced the award-winning Bulletin magazine.

It’s certainly a new way forward and wholly consistent with the goals outlined in our Acadia 2025 Strategic Plan. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by any and all means possible, and, as stated in the document, “it is imperative that progressive educational institutions make environmental responsibility and sustainability as core elements in curricula, programming and institutional practice; and make progress toward becoming net-zero carbon emitters.”

Our alumni magazine, the Bulletin, transitioned to the digital space in spring 2021 and I’m delighted that we are adding The Honoree to a lineup of publications that offer readers a varied, engaging and interactive experience that extends far beyond print and allows us to tell the Acadia story in novel and creative ways.

And what stories we have to share! Members of our 2022 graduating class crossed the stage in Convocation Hall in May to receive their diplomas in person despite the lingering influence of the pandemic. We also bestowed honorary degrees on five distinguished individuals and were proud to share their inspirational stories and personal messages online. I encourage you to experience them by clicking HERE.

We also enjoyed the October visit to campus of Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner (’22), at which time we bestowed his honorary degree in person after he was unable to travel to Acadia in May due to the pandemic. We remain committed to collaborative action to advance equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the campus and amongst our university community, and continue to extol the value of Acadia’s unique, personalized educational experience to prospective students here at home and around the world.

We could not do so without your generous advocacy, support and attention. I am tremendously grateful for all you bring to the Acadia community and delighted to share this digital version of The Honoree with you. Sincerely,

Dr. Peter Ricketts President and Vice-Chancellor
