Calling All Alumni: Help the Archives Digitize the Athenaeum

Do you have old copies of the Athenaeum tucked away in your attic, basement, or filing cabinet? These issues can help the Archives digitize student history to help future generations explore campus life throughout the years.

Since the fall of 2022, Archives & Special Collections has been working to digitize the full run of the Athenaeum, from its founding in 1874 to the present day. Over 500 issues are already online and fully searchable, but the Archives needs help to complete the project.

The Archives is seeking issues from 1970 to the present, with a special focus on issues from September 1970 through March 1983. They welcome newspapers that are dry and reasonably intact, and the donated issues will be carefully scanned and may become part of the Archives' permanent collection.

How to Contribute:

Check your personal collection for old Athenaeum issues and contact Archives & Special Collections to confirm your donation. You can reach the Archives by email at archives@acadiau.ca or phone at 902-585-1011. Issues may be dropped off in person at the Archives & Special Collections Research Room (Tuesday to Friday, 1-4 PM) or mailed to Archives & Special Collections, Vaughan Memorial Library, Acadia University, 50 Acadia St, Wolfville, NS B4P 2R6.
